April 22, 2025

My original MRI date was April 30. Seeing as how I was meeting the local breast surgeon on April 23, the medical staff had been trying to get my MRI date moved up. They were successful and got it scheduled for April 22. The reason for wanting this test is to give better imagery of the tumor in my breast as well as any other potential issues that the ultrasound may not have seen. Hope for the best, brace for the worst.

The staff at Crystal Spring Imaging were all quite pleasant. There was little to no wait time before they called me back. The process for this particular MRI is interesting...

The usual undress from the waist up, put on the gown, opening in front, belongings in a locker. This part is new from the last time I experienced an MRI... they have you stand on a mat in front of a magnet thingy. Then they ask you to turn a full circle. This is to ensure there's nothing magnetic in the body. Just like warning labels on toasters that say not to use around water must have come from a bad experience, I assume this is the cause for this device. Can you imagine who had to find out the hard way?

Anyhow, on into the MRI room. If you've never had an MRI, it can be overwhelming and claustrophobic. MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging and uses magnetic and radio waves to create detailed images of the insides of the body. Technology can be amazing. And imagine the intelligence of the folks that thought it up.

A typical MRI would have the patient laying flat on their back and then get slid into the machine for the procedure. A breast MRI is a bit different. This MRI requires the patient to lay on their stomach. There's a "cut out" in the table platform where the breasts dangle. There's a padded massage type pillow where the face goes. It looks odd and uncomfortable but in my opinion it really wasn't.

This MRI takes about 15 minutes from what they tell me. Felt longer, but I'm sure it's due to me not having anything else to do but wait. Due to the loudness of the machine, they have you put in ear plugs and put headphones playing music over your ears just before going into the machine. It's still loud but it helps.

Nothing major to report here, just information of this particular step. Again with the hurry up and wait game to see what this test shows.

Lamentations 3:25 reminds us that "The Lord is good to those who wait for Him". For most of us, waiting is difficult because we're in a hurry for things to happen. We are a people that want solutions and answers today, not tomorrow. God may have other plans and be putting things in place ahead of time to prepare for the outcomes of what we are waiting for.
