Wig appointment #2
My wig came in early so I'm picking it up today. Hopefully the color I chose looks as good as I'm hoping it will. I really liked the original color I tried on but there are reasons I opted to go closer to my natural color. We'll see shortly. My friend Carleen is home recovering from knee surgery so I invited her to come with me. Girls day. 😀
I decided to straighten my hair prior to my appointment. My thinking was that the wig might fit a bit better with my hair straight instead of the fluffy curls. What I didn't think about was the chemo hair loss..... it's definitely in full effect. Touch my hair, you get quite a bit that comes with you. This is the pile that came out just when I was straightening my hair this morning. It's a lot. And it just keeps coming. Nathan is going to cut it for me later. Not to the shaving it point just yet, but I suspect that isn't far off.
Wig appointment went well. The color choice looks very good! I've got some styling issues to work on with it as it's right out of the box so that's to be expected. Carleen coming along made it a very enjoyable outing... chatting, laughing, shop talk, then lunch after my appointment. It was very enjoyable!!
So far, after 3 treatments of chemo, I am still not experiencing any of the typical side effects, just the aforementioned hair loss. I feel lucky so far. Maybe continuing my supplements is helping. I've added one to my regime that came recommended by a nurse in the field that's read up on this particular option. I just started adding this item so I'll talk more about it once I have more feedback on it. Other than continuing my regular supplements (probiotics, magnesium, omegas, vit c, multivitamins) the other things I've done to counter act the side effects and keep my CBC in check are as follows: doubled my water intake to 128oz per day, added a protein shake that contains 30g of protein, added yogurt back into my diet, added more fresh fruits and veggies back (I had gotten lazy for a bit, plus cost..) and staying away from fast foods, cut back to one Dr. Pepper per day, generally trying to eat healthier than I had been. I watch my blood test results every week to ensure I'm doing my part to maintain my red blood cell counts and my immune system as best as I can. I still have to look up what the initials on the blood panel mean, but I'm learning.
