Treatment Day
Today's treatment was on a Tuesday as Monday was Memorial Day. There were more folks in the room today getting other than Chemo treatments today. Many much older and many slept thru their treatments. I heard lots of snoring today. Made me giggle.
I had my Benadryl administered orally today since they were doubling that dose for added prevention of side effects. They doubled the Pepcid as well. The oral dosage of Benadryl did NOT help keep the RLS at bay. It took longer to kick in and was almost unbearable. I almost got up and started pacing the room. Not sure what I am going to do about this issue....
I'm only able to tolerate about 20 minutes with the ice packs on my hands and feet during the Taxol injection. The injection runs an hour. The doctor had said something is better than nothing so I don't feel too bad but I'm trying to push the threshold past 20 minutes. My fingers just don't handle cold and it becomes very painful, especially on my left hand where I already have some nerve damage in one of my finger tips.. I'm going to keep trying.... In case I haven't discussed the ice packs before, here's the why:
Neuropathy. The ice packs prevent the meds from traveling to the extremities and helps to prevent Neuropathy. Neuropathy refers to nerve damage that can cause pain, numbness, tingling or weakness in different parts of the body. Nobody wants that so I am trying....
I've ordered several "cheap" wigs in addition to my daily wear one. I figured this way if I need to run to the store real quick or something I can just throw on a cheaper one quickly. Plus, why not have some fun with this! I mean, my showers are now like 5 minute "dude" showers with no hair to wash and nothing to shave. Getting ready is easy - get dressed, pick out hair and put it on. Voila'! Easy peasy!
I've also ordered some eyebrow stencils and pencils to get ready for that step... This is gonna be a challenge for this girl... I'm not one to do make up so I've never done anything with drawing in eyebrows and such. We'll see how that goes... all else fails, grab a wig with bangs and pull it low! 😁
Still no other side effects to report. Labs are still looking good. We're at the halfway point for this regimen so let's keep praying that the rest keeps this pace!
